Editorial Process
Once a manuscript is submitted, it proceeds to a desk review or pre-check review. Manuscripts that are to be subject to peer review then proceed to external assessment. Accepted manuscripts are copyedited and typeset before proofs are distributed to authors and the work is prepared for publication.
1. Desk Review (Pre-Check Review)
The Desk Review is carried out by the journal Editor or Deputy Editor in the case of Research Articles and Notes and Documents, and by the Assistant Editor (Book Reviews) in the case of Review Essays and Book Reviews.
The Desk Review determines whether the manuscript is within the scope of the journal and meets the basic requirements outlined in the Author Instructions.
2. Peer Review
If a manuscript is to be subject to peer review, the Editors will send requests to peer reviewers with relevant expertise. Once a reviewer accepts the request, they will have two months to return their report.
Based on the reports, the Editors will either approve or reject the manuscript for publication, or request corrections. Corrections may be subject to a further round of peer review if substantial, or may be accepted at the discretion of the Editors.
3. Copyediting and Typesetting
Once an article has been accepted for publication, it will be subject to copyediting and typesetting by the Editors, in coordination with the author or authors.
Authors will have the opportunity to make minor amendments to the text, but no substantial adjustments.
4. Publication
Manuscripts will be prepared for publication and proofs will be distributed to authors. Articles will be published as a whole volume on the designated publication date.
